You might remember Macklemore's candid & productive discussion on race in hip hop with Ebro two years ago. With the internet typhoon his new single "White Privilege II" has freshly whipped up, Macklemore (and his trusty sidekick Ryan Lewis) swung by Sway in the Morning on Tuesday to discuss the record and rehash many of the same topics he delved into with Ebro.
The discussion took many twists and turns but kept returning to Iggy Azalea, whom Macklemore called out in the second verse of "White Privilege II." Macklemore elaborated on comments he made in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. "That whole verse is me implicating myself, I think a lot of people have misinterpreted it," he told Sway. "We're all in the same place, we're all in the same sphere. We're white artists that in the last couple of years have been rightfully critiqued for appropriating black culture and benefiting from it. I'm putting myself in the exact same box as them."
