In the trailer for “Tunnel Vision” G-Eazy plays Johnny Russo, a gritty hip hop promoter who has been in the game for 20 years, but has repeatedly lost everything due to the real estate crisis and a ponzi scheme run by his lawyer. The character and screenplay are based on the real life story of Antonio Salvatore Servidio.
The trailer hints that G-Eazy, real name Gerald Gillum, will be in and out of prison and it will be quite intense. A number of influential hip hop artists will be represented in the film (although not be their real names), including Tupac Shakur, Mac Dre and Nelly. Keak Da Sneak will also be in the film, although as an actor.
The film’s creators characterize the film as “a modern day ‘Catch Me If You Can’ vs ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ with a splash of ‘Casino’.” Director and co-writer Sarah B. Downey has won multiple awards for her recent short film “Red Velvet Cake.” It’s a lot to live up to, can Gerald handle the pressure?
