Known for his controversial, trollish, and often insightful opinions, Vince Staples made a guest appearance on ESPN's Highly Questionable yesterday to promote his Circa '06 tour. Speaking with Bomani Jones and Dan Le Batard, Staples discussed his upbringing, specifically his years as a member of a gang. "If you have nothing better to do, you often find time to do the wrong things. And that's just kind of where that fell into play," he said.
"I don't think it's something that you extract yourself from," he continued. "It's something that you move on from, for the simple fact that these things aren't based in crime or wrong, these things are based in being a part of a certain community. And the only way to get away form that community is to literally leave the community or better the community."
Being an ESPN program, the interview touched briefly on sports... Staples mentioned that he overlapped with Cam Newton at Atlanta's Westlake High School. Staples took umbrage to the fact that they edited out his challenge to Chris Paul to "come get these buckets."
