Considering his current status, it seems crazy Kendrick Lamar dropped his first album less than 5 years ago. Of course, he started rapping long before that, as he released his first mixtape, under the name K-Dot, back in 2003. An interview dating back to late 2009, soon before Kendrick's first official release on Top Dawg, the Kendrick Lamar EP, has surfaced again, and it ends with a 22-year-old Kendrick freestyling over Kanye West's "So Appalled," the star-studded track on 2010's My Dark Twisted Fantasy.
"So Appalled" didn't actually come out until September 2010, but a version of the track had leaked shortly before Kendrick's December 2009 interview. As for Kendrick's "A Little Appalled," he kills it, and his young, undeveloped talent is a spectacle in itself.
The freestyle starts just after the 3:00 mark, but the preceding interview proves to be highly prophetic, as Kendrick discusses his goal to bring his story -- that of a "good kid in a mad city" -- to the world.
