Currently in the midst of the Kunta Groove Sessions tour with Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock took the time to sit down with HNHH correspondent Baker in DC to discuss TDE moves and 90059, which has indisputably been one of the best rap albums to come out in 2015.
Kendrick Lamar recently prank called Jay Rock during a radio interview, calling in under the guise of a fawning female fan. Jay told Baker that he suspected it might have been him but wasn't sure. "It was funny as fuck though."
He shared the story of how he linked up with Busta Rhymes for "Fly on the Wall" as well as the inspiration for 90059 standout "Gumbo. His dad's side of the family hails from Louisiana, and his grandma was an all-world gumbo cook. When you're making music, all you're doing is cooking some good food," said Jay. "And if you drop it off somewhere, one person is gonna eat it and they're gonna want to share with the world if it's good."
As far as what's next for TDE, Jay said that Schoolboy Q has been in the lab cooking up some "crazy stuff," and that he himself will return to the lab as soon as gets home to start on his next project.
