EarthGang is just two guys, but there's enough creative energy between them to make their unique brand the focus of our latest episode of Crew Love. The duo of Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot are bringing an exciting new sound out of Atlanta, blending spontaneous poetics in the tradition of OutKast with forward-thinking electronic beats. The primary appeal of their music is simple: It's all them -- the natural expression of a friendship based on creativity. Thus we present a brief introduction to the personalities of both Dot and Venus.
The pair met in freshman year of high school during an especially chaotic fire drill, and they've been best friends ever since. They began making beats by sneaking onto their high school's one computer, which happened to be donated by renowned ATL hitmaker Dallas Austin. After working an array of odd jobs, from delivering pizzas to cleaning "rat traps," to make ends meet amid their musical experiments, they're now getting paid for what they love, and the energy couldn't be more promising.
After a career highlight of touring with Ab-Soul, EarthGang is about to join Mac Miller, Tory Lanez, and more on the GO:OD AM tour -- check dates here. EarthGang's next project, Strays With Rabies, drops on November 6. Dedicated to the "people that feel that they was overlooked in the city," it's a release you don't wanna miss.
