As he prepares to release his sixth studio album, Church in These Streets, Jeezy sat down with his good friend DJ Whoo Kid to discuss his storied career and his path to developing the inspirational, political message he's shared on many of his recent tracks.
Jeezy starts by reminiscing about some of his classic mixtapes and tracks, including "Soul Survivor," which is still a staple on his current tour. Whoo Kid then asks Jeezy how he got to meet Minister Farrakhan, with whom he stood by at the recent Justice Or Else march in Washington, D.C.
Jeezy said his drive to create a more powerful message within his music came while he was in prison and his name was being slandered in the media. Farrakhan spoke to Jeezy while he was locked up and talked about getting him back on the front lines upon his release.
They go on to discuss the tracks on Church in These Streets, and Jeezy confirms he can still do a club record, as proven by "Gold Bottles." The album, he says, is gonna be an entire experience. Fans shouldn't expect "church music" -- it comes from the same relentless Jeezy we've heard since day 1.
