HNHH correspondent Baker caught up with DeJ after her homecoming concert at Bowie State University in Maryland, which brought her back to her own college days at Saginaw Valley State in Michigan.
DeJ recently wrapped up The Pinkprint Tour with Nicki Minaj, Rae Sremmurd, and Tinashe. It was an exclamation point on what has been a wild year for her, but there was one moment from the tour that she doesn't remember fondly: the time she ate a weed brownie.
It was just an ordinary night on tour, until DeJ took a bite from the corner of a silvery package that contained edibles and got wayyy too high. "[It was] the worst thing to ever happen to me in my life," she said. "I'm never eating an edible ever again. I'm not a smoker, I don't smoke weed."
Dej will be sticking to the Hennessy from here on out.
Later in the interview, she explained how her younger days at the roller rink inspired her "Back Up" video with Big Sean. "That skating life was serious. You had to be cool on them skates," she said." As for her debut album, which is currently under construction: "We getting there, I'm taking my time with it, I'm not gonna force it."
DeJ attended her first ever BET Hip Hop Awards earlier this month, we caught up with her on the green carpet below.
