Talib Kweli hasn't endorsed Bernie Sanders just yet.

At first glance, Bernie Sanders is the sort of presidential candidate who might garner support from the political wing of the hip hop community. Though Lil B vocalized his admiration of Sanders this week, Talib Kweli is reluctant to do the same. He expounded on his position regarding Sanders during an appearance on "Real Time with Bill Maher."

“Just because somebody has a record of civil rights doesn’t mean they are automatically entitled to the black vote,” said Kweli. “It’s very possible to be progressive and still have no understanding of racial issues.”

Kweli put on a free concert in St. Louis last weekend for the one year anniversary of the Ferguson riots. Maher mentioend that Sanders has “a 100 percent approval rating from the NAACP," but Kweli maintained his skepticism.

“The job of activism is not to be liked and not to be polite,” he said.
