Back in times when profanity and drug references were more rare in popular music, songwriters resorted to some pretty goofy measures to slip allusions to various substances into their lyrics. "Puff The Magic Dragon," a song popularized by Peter, Paul and Mary, was one of these-- ostensibly a children's song about a dragon and his friend Jackie Paper, but really a thinly-veiled metaphor for smoking weed ("Paper" isn't really a common last name, after all). DJ Quik referenced this for obvious reason on his Midnight Life cut "Puffin' The Dragon."
Fittingly, he dons Hunter S. Thompson attire and reenacts parts of 'Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas," a book of Thompson's that was famously adapted into a film starring Johnny Depp.
