M.I.A. drops a new audiovisual project called "Matahdatah Scroll 01 Broader Than a Border."

Last month, M.I.A. announced a confusing-sounding hybrid of mixtape/short film that would contain three new songs and be 12 minutes in length. Today, we get something that may or may not be an updated version of that: a six-minute-long audiovisual project that contains two tracks-- one ("Swords") taken from her upcoming album, Matahdatah, and the other ("Warriors") from 2013's Mantangi

Accompanied by footage of girls dancing in West Africa and India, the new song is built around a beat that samples swords, of all things. M.I.A. name-checks OT Genasis' "CoCo," and comes through with a surprisingly catchy song, despite its unorthodox sonic backdrop.
