Vince Staples just released one of the year's most vital albums, Summertime '06, and this week, he was in the UK in support of the project. His trip led him to Tim Westwood's studios, where he laid down a freestyle for the UK hip hop guru's YouTube channel. Watch his display of bars above.
He kicks things off over Kanye West, Common and Talib Kweli's "Get Em High," sounding effortless as he delivers his characteristically deep lyrics in a monotone over Yeezus' vintage production. With similar mentions of the family, neighborhood and street violence that made up most of Summertime's subject matter, Staples stays in his lane and shows us that he's got more stories and parables galore-- the album was just the tip of the iceberg.
