A$AP Rocky tells the story of a time his brother talked him into buying a Rakim cassette tape instead of the Mortal Kombat soundtrack.

While backstage at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, ASAP Rocky decided to partake in Fallon's "My First Album" segment and talk about his first ever album purchase.

Dating back to the late 90’s, Rocky said he was in Pennsylvania at the time and had to decide on purchasing a Mortal Kombat soundtrack or a Rakim album. He says his older brother was into Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and wanted Flacko to choose his own path with music, but little did he know the choice of Rakim would not only change Rocky’s life, but where he’d get his stage name from.
