During a stop on his "Dollar And A Dream" tour, J. Cole took time out of his set list to explain to concert go-ers the idea behind his 2010 mixtape, Friday Night Lights, arguably one of Cole's best releases to date. As Cole explains it, he was going through some things with the constant delay and pressure of his debut album.
"Three months, six months, a year, every interview, every time I see the fans they like yo where the album at? I started feeling that pressure, I couldn't get no release date. So I'm saying all this to say, one night I wrote these raps, and the next day we got back to New York from doing show, and I was like, yo we gotta record this shit, so we went to a studio in Times Square. And I decided that night, enough is enough. I didn't want niggas to think I was falling off or slacking, so in that moment, I decided I was gunna drop a whole project on niggas."
