Carolina Panthers stud QB, and reigning NFL MVP, Cam Newton graced the cover of GQ Magazine's September issue and although his flashy style was on full display in the photoshoot, that is not what people are talking about this morning.

In the lengthy interview, which you can check out in full right here, Cam was asked about the criticism he often receives and whether or not that has anything to do with the fact that he's a black quarterback.

Despite the ongoing racial tension in our country, Cam says we're "beyond" racism;

“I don’t want this to be about race, because it’s not. It’s not. Like, we’re beyond that. As a nation.”

GQ: You really think so?

“Yeah. I mean, you bring it to people’s attention. But after that, that’s it.”

"I'll let you be the judge. I don't look at it like that," he told GQ. "I look at it like some people have certain beliefs, and I have my own belief, and we can agree to disagree on certain things. But this is what makes sports so amazing, that we can start a discussion around a table, in the newspaper, in the magazines, that will get people's attention. And that's what sports does."

Of course, Cam's GQ cover story also addressed his unique fashion sense, how he dealt with the Super Bowl 50 loss (a lot of Chardonnay), and whether or not he plans on letting his son, Chosen, play football in the future.

Hint: the answer is yes.

“Of course. Why wouldn’t they let them play football?" Newton says. "But they don’t talk about the joy it brings! Super Bowl Sunday trumps every TV rating known to man.”

Cam and the Panthers will kick off the NFL season on Thursday, September 8th against the very team that shut them down in Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos.
