Today is the 15-year anniversary of one of the best rap debut albums ever. We're referring to 50 Cent's debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin. To this day, it remains inimitable, as evidence by our recent list of the top 25 best 50 Cent songs, for which Get Rich or Die Tryin accounts for probably "too many" spots/is there such a thing. It was the best-selling album in the year it was released, 2003, it's gone on to sell millions six times over-- the last RIAA certification it received was for six times platinum. That's to say nothing of the tracklist, which is truly a no-skip feat.
Perhaps then, in looking back on the seminal release, 50 was in a thankful mood, as he gave a shout out to his mentor and signee, Eminem, in the wake of the album's anniversary. He's also got a sale going on for merch on his website in celebration of the anniversary.
While fans are wondering if 50 and Em will ever collaborate again (and if they did, what would that sound like??? We have a feeling Fif would bring the best out of present-day Marshall Mathers. That's a thinkpiece for another time, though), Fif is simply showing love to the one that put him on: "This is my Boy right here for life. l love this guy he gave me my shot, and l ππ½ββοΈπ¨Ran with it. Classic." Indeed. 50 has since turned his rap career into that of a businessman, often times seemingly more focused on the next venture outside of music than the one therein.
