While it was reported that Frank Ocean's long-awaited sophomore album, Boys Don't Cry, would arrive on August 5th, a week later, the project is nowhere in sight. Even though the album didn't show up, the potential release did inspire a lot of hype, and it seems it was enough to allow Ocean's 2012 album, Channel Orange, a placement back on the Billboard 200.
Whether it was new fans hearing about Frank through the many memes posted on social media, or simply superfans determined to buy an album from their favorite artist that week, Orange had a 40% spike in sales, selling approximately 5,000 album equivalent units. It appeared at 146 of the Billboard 200, making it the first time the album has appeared there since May 18, 2013.
If the reclusive R&B singer can sell this many copies of his first album at this point, we should expect big numbers for Boys Don't Cry, whenever Frank decides the world is ready for it. There are now rumors that suggest it could be coming as soon as this weekend, but don't hold your breath.
