January 3rd, hundreds of gunmen tied to the terrorist group Boko Haram attacked northeastern Nigeria town of Baga, spreading into neighboring towns and a multinational military base. While the attacks started at dawn on the 3rd, they continued into last weekend. Death tolls are said to be anywhere between hundreds, and over 2000. At least 30,000 people have been displaced. The town of Baga has reportedly been burned to the ground.
DC emcee Wale, took time out of his touring schedule to speak to MTV on the tragedy.
"My Dad is out right now. He's in Nigeria...and I believe it's North Nigeria, but he's in the country part" said the emcee, who's parents are both Nigerian born. "It's fucked up and it's just like...where (are) you safe at?"
Speaking with MTV's Rob Markman, Wale went on to question how people could use religion to kill, exploit, and judge other people.
