With her recent album The London Sessions, Mary J. Blige underwent a late-career revitalization, fashioning her music in the image of hip, sleek British dance-pop and largely benefitting from the results. Today, she's offered up a music video for album cut "When You're Gone," one of the more classic-sounding ballads on the project.
Recorded live in a studio with Blige only accompanied by an acoustic guitarist, her raw talent is put on full display here, with no studio trickery deployed to disguise or mask her singing. Blige is one of the few artists left in R&B who has the pure vocal chops to pull this off.
