Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" is often cited as the very first socially conscious hip hop song. The upcoming mini series from BET takes its name from the iconic single, going back through history to look at rap's progression.
“This exciting series examines the origin and the path of the music and message, taking care to objectively analyze its factions and movements,” says Stephen Hill, the president of Music Programing and Specials at BET.
The film will feature conversations with the likes of Nas, The Game, Snoop Dogg, Russell Simmons, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, and more.
"The Message" will be airing each wednesday at 10 pm EST throughout the month of June on BET.
