As a versatile, Grammy-nominated producer, Terrace Martin works within a number of genres, including hip-hop, jazz and R&B. In his new YouTube series "INFLUENCES," he takes us on "a journey through his favorite music records, from 1950's John Coltrane to 2000's D'Angelo." The first episode centers on Snoop (Doggy) Dogg's Doggystyle.
Comparing the 1993 LP to albums by more classically celebrated artists like Miles Davis and John Coltrane, L.A. native Martin praised the project for giving "every possible emotion you can have over the course of an album." He discusses the reasons Doggystyle has been elevated to "classic" status over the years, noting its melodicism and dope production.
