Between his stellar mixtape Coloring Book, a variety of high-profile public appearances, and immaculate branding, Chance the Rapper has emerged as something of a rap supernova in 2016. Another benchmark for Lil Chano from 79th: an appearance on the new cover of Billboard magazine.
Chance spoke on a variety of topics, including his debut mixtape 10 Day, his relationships with his fans, his relationship with other Chicago artists, and more. Here are some select quotes:
On developing a Xanax addiction after moving to LA:
"I looked up and months had passed, and I hadn’t made enough music. It was around this time that he also felt a need to get back to Chicago. I missed a lot of weddings and funerals."
On his creative process:
“When I write, I work off of a theme, an emotion, a narrative — thinking of it and then expounding on it."
On releasing mixtapes and staying independent:
"It’s not about the music being free. It’s about how it is displayed and made accessible and about artistic power."
