Lately, A$AP Rocky's switched his focus from rapping to producing, dropping the instrumental "Riot Rave" track and remixing Tame Impala's "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" in the past few months.
That continues with his work on "Baby Gangster," a short new documentary directed by Luke Monaghan (who did Rocky's "Purple Kisses" video). Rocky and London producer Tev'n Kennedy composed the film's soundtrack, which consists of atmospheric music bolstered by big beats.
Centering on the life of former Compton drug kingpin Fredrick James Staves, "Baby Gangster" allows him to tell his story that led him from gangbanging to customizing lowriders. It's cool to see Rocky doing creative things like this, and it makes us wish more hip-hop producers would consider soundtracking films.
