The day has finally come, Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 7 in an event today that kicked off with some carpool karaoke featuring Apple CEO, Tim Cook, James Corden, and some dude named Pharrell.
Before Cook unveiled the new smartphone, he spoke about Apple Music which has grown to 17 million subscribers since it launched, and more importantly, announced that a new Super Mario game, Super Mario Run will be available in the App Store this Holiday season.
Then they debuted the new Apple Watch "Series 2", which is currently the number two watch brand in the world, by revenue, behind only Rolex. This new watch is reportedly "swim proof" and is water resistant up to 50 meters. Of course, Pokemon Go will also be coming to the Apple Watch Series 2.
Preorders for Series 2 start on September 9th, watchOS 3 ships September 13th, and watches start shipping on September 16th. It will retail for $369, as will the new Nike+ version shown in the gallery above.
As for the actual iPhone 7...
Most of the rumors were true: There is no headphone jack, there are dual camera lenses on the iPhone 7 Plus, and the phone is water & dust resistant. The phone also comes equipped with stereo speakers, a longer battery life, and will be available in five different colors including a sleek "jet black," matte black, gold, silver, and rose gold.
According to TechCrunch, Apple’s lightning-based Earpods, as well as a lightning-to-3.5mm adapter, will be included in the box. However, Apple is really encouraging everyone to go wireless and they'll be selling brand new Apple Airpods ($159) which can be double-tapped to activate Siri as needed. Infrared sensors will detect when the AirPods are in your ear, playing only when they’re in your ears. AirPods will get 5 hours of playback per charge, excluding the additional charge provided by the carrying case.
Good luck keeping track of those. Brilliant move by Apple tbh.
TechCrunch also reports that the iPhone 7 camera has a quad-LED flash with 50% light output, a 12 megapixel sensor that is 60% faster, and a six-element, 1.8 aperture lens. I don't know what any of that means but it sounds delightful.
The iPhone 7 will retail for $649, the 7 Plus for $769, and come in the following models: 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB. Pre-orders for the iPhone 7 and 7+ start September 9th, and start shipping on September 16th.
Naturally, it is being described as the best iPhone they have ever created.
