Rihanna is undoubtedly one of the biggest pop icons of our generations. Between her fashionable wardrobe, her attitude and her general IDGAF attitude, she's bound to make history books for contributions to pop culture. While she's often celebrated for what she does in music and fashion, as she should be, lately it's seems like she's been putting in work within her philanthropic efforts. it's been reported that the singer has launched her "The Dollar Campaign" under her Clara Lionel Foundation in an effort to raise funds for global education. The money that she raises through the campaign will be used to help support education in Malawi.
On the Clara Lionel Foundation website, they say that every dollar donated his her "$1 Campaign" will give each donor the opportunity to win a trip to New York City to attend her upcoming Diamond Ball on September 14th. The campaign will last until September 5th with the winner being chose on September 7th. The Diamond Ball is bound to be huge. Rihanna has gotten Dave Chappelle as the host as well as performances from Kendrick Lamar and Calvin Harris. For a dollar donation, you'll not only be helping kids in need but also have the chance to see Dave Chappelle, Rihanna and Kendrick in the same function. Which already sounds lit.
The website also details what the contribution one makes will ultimately do. On her website, it says that every dollar donated could provide one brick to help build a school in Malawi while if you donate $5, it'll provide five bricks. A $10 dollar donation can possibly provide 10 books to students and $15 could help provide a girl with essential school supplies.
For Rihanna, it's clear that with all the success she's gained over the span of her decade long career that she believes it's time to give back. She even said it at a lecture at Harvard University. During her lecture, she said "“I want to challenge each of you to make a commitment to help one person, one organization, one situation that touches your heart. My grandmother always used to say if you have a dollar there’s plenty to share.”
While she continues to put work in with her Clara Lionel Foundation, you can't help but applaud her for using her platform to push humanity in a better place.
