Scooter Braun has long been one of the biggest names in music business when it comes to managing talent. His company, SB Projects, is known for its personal touch, billing itself as "more than just a company." The organization has some massive names under their umbrella too, such Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Usher, Vic Mensa, Martin Garrix and many more. He's also become an influential personality, setting trends in the music biz and being one of the forces who's voice is regularly respected, not simply heard. Now, according to new information from TMZ, the entertainment magnate might be on his way into a different arena: politics.
New reports indicate that, if some powerful California democrats have their way, Braun will be running for Governor of the state in the near future. Several fundraising outfits and other political operatives have supposedly reached out to him, testing his interest in the idea of running for public office and also trying to potentially sway him in that direction. One source in particular also cites the fact that the current candidates - Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom and former Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa - are both flawed, which could open up an opportunity to galvanize the public's want for change.
This isn't the first rumblings that have been heard concerning Braun going into politics. Having immersed himself considerably in the Democratic Party over the past year, a process that included fundraising efforts for then-Nominee Hillary Clinton, he really had other Liberal voices perk up when he made an impassioned speech at the One Love benefit concert in Manchester, U.K., which was put on to help raise money for the victims of the Ariana Grande concert bombing and their families.
While it's not yet clear if Braun will follow through on the current rumors and seriously consider a run for Governor of California, it's not an unprecedented career choice, moving from the entertainment business into the political field. Former President Ronald Reagan was an actor before he became a public servant and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger famously held that position for eight years, from 2003 to 2011.
