Sean Smith faces felony assault charges.

Oakland Raiders corner back Sean Smith was arrested last night in Los Angeles after reportedly beating up his sister's boyfriend.

According to ESPN, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said Smith faces one felony count each of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious injury.

The report alleges that the 30-year old corner beat up his sister's boyfriend and then stomped on his head near the corner of Arroyo Parkway and Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, California, on the 4th of July. That date falls in the six week window between minicamp and training camp.

According to ESPN, Raiders coach Jack Del Rio made a point to remind his players to "stay out of trouble" and "make good decisions" at the conclusion of minicamp in June.

Per ESPN,

"I told our guys two major things -- make sure that you're taking care of your bodies so you arrive in camp ready to work ... [and] two, stay out of trouble," Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said he told the players at the conclusion of minicamp in June. "Be safe. Make good decisions.

"More occurrences than ever happen this time of year. Just don't take any liberties. Don't take any chances. Don't take anything for granted. Appreciate where we are and the opportunity that we have and remember that it's all about the team."

Smith, who is entering his second year with the Raiders, was released shortly after being arrested after posting $80,000 bail. He is due back in court on September 29th, and if convicted he could face up to seven years in prison.

The 6'3, 218-pound corner signed a four-year $38 million contract as a free agent and is due $9.5 this upcoming season. He was reportedly demoted to the second team last week.

The Raiders will host the Los Angeles Rams in their second preseason game this Saturday. The team opens up the regular season on Sunday, September 10th, with a 1:00pm road game in Tennessee.
