Any Lox fans in the building? If so, you know that Styles P has been quietly killing the game with consistent creative content, including eight solo studio albums, seven collaborative albums, and a novel called Invincible. Moreover, the D Block vet who once dropped a song called "Shoot Em' In The Head," is on his entrepreneurial tip, enjoying the success of his Bronx based juice bar "Juices for Life." Holiday Styles took a break from helping his hood stay health conscious to chop it up with DJ Envy, Angela Yee, & Charlamagne Tha God. And like a true gentleman, he brought his wife Adjua along for the conversation.
Charlamagne kicks things off by asking Styles if he was the first "hip-hop health junkie," which prompts an entertaining "green juice" discussion about his role dropping health knowledge to the community. As the conversation progresses, the conversation turns to a more heartbreaking subject, the death of their daughter Tai Styles. Tai committed suicide in 2015, and the couple didn't hesitate to speak out on the perils of mental health. As it turns out, Adjua actually has a book coming out detailing her loss, and explains she initially wrote it to honor her daughter's memory.
The couple proceed to open up about the profound loss they experienced as a family, and how they've tried to make peace with the tragedy. It's an extremely emotional interview, and gives a lot of insight into the philosophies that drive Styles and his family. Styles really goes in depth about his own past, including the relationship he had with his step father and how it affected his own upbringing. Mad respect to Styles for being unafraid to talk openly about such personal topics.
Fans of the emcee's work should most definitely check this one out, and if you're looking for some new Styles, check out his latest project with Berner, Vibes.
