Beyoncé could be changing the game again, but this time, it will have nothing to do with music.
As we previously reported, the singer is supposedly considering purchasing an ownership stake in the NBA's Houston Rockets franchise. The move would make a lot of sense for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that Beyoncé was raised in Houston, Texas, making her a celebrity owner that could become a passionate, locally-grown voice for the team. In addition to that, the Rockets have a lot of positive PR to gain from such a move, potentially emulating the higher profile her husband Jay-Z was able to give the Brooklyn Nets after he became a part owner of that franchise.
One man who is in agreement with all of this is former Rockets guard and current TV analyst Kenny Smith, who told TMZ that Bey owning a share of his former team would change sports. ""I would love to see that," he said. "That would be something I look at my daughters and say, 'Look, see you don't have to be a part of the team. Own the team!" With the current ownership regime of the Rockets looking to sell, there's no telling what the future holds, but Smith's words could go a long way insofar as helping keep Beyoncé's name in that conversation.
