The Weeknd, currently in the middle of his world tour in support of last year's monumental hit record Starboy, will be taking the crowd at this year's Video Music Awards into the stratosphere.
As per an announcement earlier today from MTV, the singer will be performing at the 2017 edition of prestigious awards show, which is set to take place on August 27th in California. It could be a big night for Abel, and not just because he'll be serenading us all during the broadcast: his video for "Reminder" has also garnered a nomination for Video of the Year. Other performers will include Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry and Lorde, just to name a few. MTV is also set to announce more performers in the coming days. There is no advance word on which song or songs we will ultimately showcase during the show.
The Weeknd has had a very good summer where his chart results are concerned as well. He recently scored his 100th consecutive week on the Billboard album chart with his previous effort, Beauty Behind the Madness. Couple that with the recent remix to "Reminder" that he dropped featuring A$AP Rocky and Young Thug, you've got enough buzz to ensure that the Starboy's momentum will not come crashing down to Earth anytime soon.
