Thursday, American Green Inc. announced their purchase of the small Californian town, Nipton, populated by 20 people, with plans to turn it into a marijuana-laced tourist destination.
"We thought that showing that there was a viable means of having a cannabis-friendly municipality and further making it energy independent could be a way of really inspiring folks to say, 'Why can’t we do that here?'" said project manager Stephen Sherin, going on to state that the company's goal is to "create a community that is accepting and understanding" concerning marijuana use.
Purchasing 120 acres for $5 million, the move comes at the cusp of an emerging cannabis-tourism industry.
Initial projects for the town, situated between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, include plans to bottle Nipton's water and infuse it with what is known as cannabinoid (CBD), which doesn't do much in getting people high, but works well for pain and inflammation.
After their announcement, American Green Inc.'s stock rose 40%, adding to its portfolio as the nation's largest publicly-traded cannabis company.
