Barcelona's 25-year old superstar Neymar Jr. is expected to complete his world-record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the coming days, but it's not going to be that easy.
La Liga has reportedly refused to accept the €222 million payment from Paris Saint-Germain to trigger Neymar's buyout clause.
La Liga said, per ESPN FC,
"We can confirm that the legal representatives of the player [Neymar] came to La Liga to deposit the clause and that it has been rejected. This is all the information we can give at the moment."
According to an ESPN report, La Liga president, Javier Tebas, accused PSG of "financial doping" and said he will not be accepting the team's payment for Neymar.
"PSG's accounts reflect that they have more commercial income than Real Madrid or Manchester United, which is to say that their brand value is bigger than these two clubs. Well, that is impossible."
Barcelona is also reportedly pressuring UEFA to investigate how PSG plans to pay for this staggering transfer.
To put things in perspective, the following tweet showcases just how much money Neymar stands to make if the deal goes through.
