Discovery Channel's beloved "Shark Week" kicked off last night with the "much anticipated" showdown between 23-time Olympic gold medal swimmer Michael Phelps and a great white shark. Well, sort of.
Obviously Phelps couldn't swim side-by-side with the great white so instead organizers of the race let the shark swim the 100-meter stretch first, and then Phelps, side-by-side with a CGI shark, took to the frigid waters of the off the coast of South Africa.
In the end, the shark finished the 100-meter race in 36.1 seconds compared to Phelps' time of 38.1 seconds.
The fact that Phelps hadn't actually raced alongside the living, breathing, man-killing shark, left some viewers supremely disappointed.
