25-year old Mervin Cabe and two of his friends recently visited the Louis Vuitton store in Aspen, Colorado and racked up $18,548 worth of merch, which they then tried to pay for using former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson's Apple Pay account.
According to the Aspen Daily News, Cabe tried to pay with a credit card and when that was declined he successfully used the Apple Pay account on his phone, but the Louis Vuitton store requires a “profile ID” to complete a transaction.
According to a police report obtained by the Aspen Daily News, when the employee pulled up Chad Johnson's profile, "Cabe then leaned in and looked at the computer screen. He pointed and said, 'Yeah, that’s the one, Chad Johnson. That’s me.'"
The employee reportedly completed the purchase but also called police who arrived before Cabe (who looks nothing like the real Chad Johnson) and his friends could leave the store.
When questioned, Cabe was unwilling to show police the credit card number associated with the Apple Pay account, and he maintained that he was really Chad Johnson. However, he told cops he was born in 1991, when the real Chad Johnson was born in '78.
That's when he allegedly came clean, telling officers, “You’re going to have to take me home … to jail … I’ve done something bad."
He was booked on felony counts of identity theft and unauthorized use of a financial transaction device.
