Drake released a hilarious ad for his Virginia Black Whiskey Saturday, and it seems Diddy took notice. The Bad Boy mogul, who has found great success with Cîroc Vodka, saluted Drake as "another man of color owning their own."
"It's time to start supporting us," he wrote, tagging the post "#BlackExcellence."
Just last night, Diddy released a short film titled "Black Excellence" that gave us a look at the Roc Nation Brunch and his Pre-Grammy party. Jay-Z is prominently featured in the film, and the YouTube title quotes a line from Hov's new track "Family Feud" where he says "What’s better than one billionaire? Two." The song, which celebrates black-owned businesses, also features a line that directly addresses Diddy: "I’ll be damned if I drink some Belvedere while Puff got Cîroc." The theme is also very applicable to Drake's new venture.
Though Drake and Diddy experienced some tension in the past, they have since mended their relationship, with Drake recently gushing about his experience at the No Way Out tour.
Could Virginia Black become as ubiquitous as Cîroc? Only time will tell. But support from a wildly successful peer like Diddy is a good start. Watch Drake's ad, featuring a very special guest appearance from his father, Dennis Graham, above.
