DJ Khaled recounted the story of the first time he got a Jay-Z verse in a brand-new interview, as per DJ Booth.
Speaking with BBC Radio 1xtra host DJ Semtex, the Grateful hip-hop mogul shared the facts of how Hov ended up on the remix to the 2008 Khaled single "Go Hard." "I heard he did it, but nobody's playing it for me and nobody's giving it to me," said Khaled. "So, I'm confused. Maybe Jay, at that time, wasn't sure [about] giving me the verse. You gotta remember, JAY-Z was retired at that time."
"Go Hard" was selected as the second single from We Global and, right before the holidays that year, Khaled got a phone call from Jay's team that the veteran rapper wanted to send him a verse. DJ Khaled apparently lost hi mind and, nearly a decade later, collaborated with Jay-Z again, along with Beyoncé, on Grateful's lead single "Shinin'."
