Last week Chauncey Billups announced that he was withdrawing his name from consideration for the Cleveland Cavaliers' vacant President of Basketball Operations position, because the timing wasn't right.
New details suggest there might be another major reason why Chauncey decided not to take a role in the Cavs' front office.
According to ESPN, Dan Gilbert and the Cavs low-balled Billups, offering him well below the league average salary for the position which is around $4 million.
"According to sources, the team's initial offer was $1.5 million. League sources told ESPN that $4 million is typically the starting point of what an individual in that role should earn."
"Sources maintain that financial compensation wasn't the only reason Billups turned down the job on Monday after weeks of deliberation, but it played a part."
The Cavs' last GM, David Griffin, made less than $2 million a year, which is one of the lowest salaries in the league for that position.
Although Billups does not have any NBA executive experience, he is considered around the league to be a future front office star, according to ESPN.
