Xzibit Defends Dr. Dre Following Chance The Rapper's Dig At Aftermath

While he has already apologized, Chance The Rapper's choice to satirize the Aftermath logo among those of other major labels and imprints at an April show is still inspiring conversation. Xzibit, a close collaborator of Dr. Dre's in the late 90s and early 00s, reportedly "took issue" with Chance's dig at Aftermath, the Interscope subsidiary founded by Dre in 1996. The West Coast rapper shared some thoughts on Dre's critics in an interview with Variety.

"These people dissing Dr. Dre, they need to get off their cell phones for about a week and come back to reality," he said. “They have no idea. Do what he did and then talk to me."

Chance, who is not currently signed to a label, has explained that his altered logos for Aftermath (Can't Do Math Entertainment), Def Jam (Don't Join Recordings) and others displayed at an April show were made to "satirize and degrade major labels." He later realized that including imprints like Aftermath, rather than going exclusively for parent labels, "dulled" his overall point of trying to "uplift" artists. He has formally apologized to Dr. Dre and his imprint for "publicly disrespecting their hard work and contributions to music."

Dr. Dre has yet to comment on Chance's initial Aftermath critique or his apology.
