Fans have been patiently awaiting for the release of Vince Staples’ sophomore album, ever since whispers of it began back in early February following the release of the lead single “BagBak.” While we thought we were going to get it back on May 19th, it turns out that was just the day Vince announced the title & release date of June 23rd, along with dropping his second single “Big Fish.” But now after weeks of anticipation & dropping off the third single “Rain Come Down” a couple days ago, Big Fish Theory has finally arrived today via Def Jam Recordings.
Laced with 12 records in total, the follow up to last year’s Prima Donna EP features “additional vocals” & guest contributions from Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolls Sign, Juicy J, & Bon Iver’s own Justin Vernon among others. Meanwhile, production is handled by the likes of Flume, Zach Sekoff, Christian Rich, Sophie, GTA, and more.
"Being larger than life in a smaller world," he said of the underlying theme behind Big Fish Theory. "[Rappers are] still large in our own right, even though we’re kind of in a smaller facilitative space. They’re still not even showing all the hip-hop awards on the Grammys, and things like that, but you still find these great personalities and these great success stories within the small pond that is our music.”
Available on iTunes, fans can stream the project in its entirety via Apple Music (below). Hit play and let us know what record you’re feeling the most?
