Jay Z To Become The First Rapper Inducted Into The Songwriters Hall Of Fame

It's a hip-hop milestone.

Tonight will be a historic one when it comes to rap music.

According to BillboardJay Z, one of the most prolific emcees ever, will become the first-ever rapper to be inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He'll join the likes of Burt Bacharach, Duke Ellington, Ira Gershwin and John Lennon. He was picked for the honor by his peers.

To celebrate, his streaming service TIDAL has launched a tribute page, with names like Quincy Jones, Rakim, and Bono congratulating him and reflecting on his post-Reasonable Doubt career. The ceremony will take place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.

Since 1996, Hov has accumulated an impressive 21 Grammys and 13 solo No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200. He'll also headline the Queens' Meadows Music and Arts Festival, Austin's ACL and Philadelphia's Made in America Festival. Damian Marley's recent comments have also fueled speculation that a new album may also be coming soon from Jay.
