Big Boi's forthcoming album Boomiverse is only days away for its scheduled release and Big Boi is using his promo appearances to enlighten on topics other than his new music.
In a recent appearance on Desus & Mero's VICELAND show, the rapper was asked how social media has changed rap. The former Outkast member responded by saying, "It's different because we had to see someone in person. If somebody would say something [negative], we'd slap the shit out of them. [Laughs] And then that just never happens again. But now you got people that's in their mother's basement on the computer, eating Cheetos and sh*t, and you just can't pay attention to it. In this age, it can be good and it can be bad, in the sense of, you can put a song out and it instantly goes everywhere, but you can also get a lawsuit by slapping the shit out of somebody."
I think he's right on the money here. If you can use it to reach a wider audience and possibly reap the financial reward of doing so, then all the better. However, as we've seen with countless other celebrities over the past few years, there's also nowhere to hide anymore if you're caught doing something less-than-palatable, because the whole world can see it instantly.
