The 2Pac fronted film "Juice" recently celebrated its twenty-fifth birthday, and a deluxe edition dropped to commemorate the occasion. The new anniversary edition features new interviews from co-writer and director Ernest R Dickerson, as well as an interesting alternate ending. For those who are super late to the party, there will be spoilers, but the movie is twenty-five years old, so...
In the original ending, 2Pac's character Bishop is hanging onto Q's (Omar Epps) hand for dear life. Unfortunately, his grip can't last forever, and Bishop slips and falls to his death. In the alternate ending, Bishop willingly lets himself go upon hearing the impending arrival of police.
Ernest Dickerson states that the alternate ending has Bishop avoiding going out like a "punk," citing his decision as a defining moment of character development. "He hears the cops coming and he stops struggling… and he lets go," says Dickerson. "It was just an attitude that showed that Bishop wasn’t a punk. He was a force that really had to be reckoned with in the right way.”
