Coming off critically-acclaimed 2016's, both Chance the Rapper and Solange were chosen to grace the cover of Teen Vogue's Music Issue, giving some thoughtful insights to readers in the process.
Chance the Rapper did a wonderfully detailed phone interview with Get Out writer-director Jordan Peele that touched on many issues, including who their heroes are, how they buck stereotypes and what Chance wanted to accomplish with Coloring Book. About the album, Chance said "[I] knew that I wanted it to be a beacon for independent artists and music makers with their own agenda."
As for Solange, she was asked to write an open letter to her teenage self, an assignment that turned into something with depth, honesty and the ability to touch those who read it. She talks about how "you will dive head first without looking into phases that you are certain of who you are." It resembles her song "Cranes In The Sky," which is also about stark self-discovery.
