KRS-One has apologized for the regrettable error in his song "Hip-Hop Speaks From Heaven." The track, which was meant as a tribute to emcees who have lost their lives, incorrectly referred to Beastie Boys member Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz as one of these deceased artists, XXL discovered. As fans will know, it is in fact, Adam "MCA" Yauch who passed away from cancer in 2012, while Ad-Rock is thankfully still alive and well.
In a statement shared on Twitter, KRS confirmed that his mistake was due to an honest mixup (both members are named Adam, after all). I am sending my sincere apologies to King Ad-Rock from the Beastie Boys on a performance error that I made on a song entitled ‘Hip Hop Speaks from Heaven’ from my new album ‘The World Is Mind,’" he wrote. "I mistakably paid respect and condolences to the wrong Beastie Boy member King Ad-Rock when it should have been MCA."
The legendary rapper went on to announce that he will re-record the song and fix the incorrect lyric. "Historical accuracy is extremely important to me," he said. The new version will replace the original on the digital version of KRS' new album The World Is MIND.
