TMZ caught Talib Kweli leaving the airport, and picked the Blackstar rapper's brain on Trump's 100th day in office. It's no secret that Talib is an intelligent, socially-conscious individual with strong opinions on race, society, and politics, so it's no surprise that he responded with some powerful words.
"It's made people understand the bar is set way lower for white people. Trump could be mediocre he could even be a failure...Obama had to work so much [harder] than everybody else. He had so many more obstacles in front of him than Donald Trump had, and he still was called a monkey, called a liar to his face by our congressman. Donald Trump lies every day, ain't nobody calling him a liar to his face."
When asked whether a racial divide was the catalyst for Trump's rise to power, Talib answered without hesitation. "It's America's answer to a n****r president," says Kweli. The cameraman continues to press Talib, asking if he'd like to have a sit down with the notorious POTUS. Talib is having none of it, stating that he would never sit down with a man like that, not unless Trump doled out the proper apologies.
Talib concludes the encounter by bigging up diversity, saying "America is great because of diversity...you have to learn about Jewish people, Muslims, women, black people, gay people...he should reach out to those communities and listen to those communities instead of dictating them."
