LaVar Ball has said a lot of patently absurd things in the last month and a half, among those the fact that he thinks his sons Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo should get a sneaker deal in the $1 billion range.
“A billion dollars, it has to be there,’’ Ball said. “That’s our number, a billion, straight out of the gate. And you don’t even have to give it to me all up front. Give us $100 mil over 10 years.’’
Lonzo is projected to be a Top-3 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft and his younger brothers LiAngelo and LaMelo are destined to follow his path from UCLA star to top NBA prospect, but $1 billion is a whole lot of money especially for guys that aren't even in the league yet.
Of course, LaVar is just trying to drive up the asking price but it really looks like he might be doing more harm than good.
According to Michael Smith of the Sports Business Journal, Nike executive George Raveling recently said LaVar Ball is "the worst thing to happen to basketball in the last hundred years."
Maybe it's time to start knocking on Adidas' door.
