Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been found not guilty of the 2012 double homicide of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

According to reports, the jury deliberated for more than 35 hours over the course of six days before coming to a not guilty verdict this afternoon.

Prosecutors had claimed that Hernandez committed a drive-by shooting on the two victims on July 16, 2012 after one of them accidentally spilled a drink on him at a Boston nightclub earlier that night.

Hernandez was only found guilty on a lesser charge, illegal possession of  a firearm, and was sentenced to serve between 4 and 5 years in prison for that conviction.

He is already serving a life sentence for the 2015 murder of Odin Lloyd
