Rolling Loud has put together an unfathomably stacked 2017 lineup that includes Kendrick Lamar, Future, & Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, A$AP Rocky, Young Thug, Migos, Post Malone, Action Bronson, Joey Bada$$, Kodak Black, and 21 Savage. Scheduled for May 5-7 at Miami's Bayfront Park, it easily promises to be one of the biggest hip hop festivals of the year.
In a surprising turn of events, the festival now faces cancellation; according to the Miami Herald, the Frank Carollo, the chairman of the Bayfront Park Management Trust, has called a vote to determine whether or not to approve the Rolling Loud's agreement with the park after he learned that the festival was authorized without the board of the trust's knowledge.
Carollo alleges that Timothy Schand, the board's executive director, signed off on the festival's contract without consulting the rest of the board. Though Schand maintains that he did not violate standard operating procedure, he resigned from the board over the dissension. Earlier this week, Carollo's assistant emailed Schand requesting that he schedule a board meeting for Tuesday, April 11th, to vote on the “approval/denial of the use agreement for the Rolling Loud Festival.”
Rolling Loud issued the following statement to XXL: “We are proceeding, as planned, to put on an amazing event at an iconic venue: Miami’s Bayfront Park. Nothing has changed. We look forward to a positive resolution of this matter on Tuesday and we have the greatest respect for the Park’s board members and all that they do to bring quality events, like ours, to showcase the best of Miami to the world.”
