Kevin Gates was not released on as scheduled on Friday, March 24th. Instead, he was transported from Polk County to Cook County, where he has a warrant for a felony weapons charge.
Dreka Gates, the rapper's wife, has shared a message to his supporters on Instagram today. While she is thankful for the thoughts and prayers being sent her way, she has urged Gates' fans to instead shift their energy towards "the idea of Kevin being home and enjoying life as a free man."
"Do NOT dwell on the things that have been put out by the media," she wrote. "Their only goal in anything is to grab/seek attention, not necessarily to release information that is FACTUAL.”
Kevin's original 180-day sentence stemmed from an incident last summer in which he kicked a female fan at a show in Lakeland, Florida. After the rapper was found guilty of misdemeanor battery, Dreka accused the victim of exaggerating her testimony in an Instagram post.
French Montana has also shared some thoughts following reports that Gates would not be released as planned. He called the rapper his "Muslim brother," and spoke of the early collaboration the two had done alongside the late Chinx.
Finally, Gucci Man called for Kevin's freedom in a tweet. Gates and Gucci have yet to work together. Here's hoping they get in the studio when Kevin comes home.
