Russell Westbrook notched yet another triple double last night against the Sixers, his 35th of the season, but this particular one was special because it was the first "perfect" triple double in NBA history.
Westbrook was perfect from the field, shooting 6 for 6, and made all six of his free throws en route to 18 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds in the Thunder's 122-97 win. It was also the first time Westbrook has ever hit all of his shots in a game.
Per ESPN,
"Just making sure I'm on balance before I shoot," Westbrook said of the somewhat unusual shot discipline. "Sometimes I rush 'em, but trying to prepare myself and make sure I'm taking on-balance shots."
"It's not a one-person job [to guard him]. It's an entire team," Sixers guard T.J. McConnell said. "We just have to clog his driving lanes, and he's going to get his. He averages a triple-double, for Chrissake, so it's tough for us to stop him."
With 11 games remaining in the regular season, Westbrook is now six triple doubles away from tying Oscar Robertson's record for most in a season and is currently on pace to become the first NBA player since Robertson in the 1961-62 season to average a triple double.
